Two days in a row this week I've received newsletters about sliding doors moments. That question of ‘What might have happened if I had done X instead...?’ The life that could have been.
So. I've got nothing fancy for you today. The choices and decisions of anyone's life are too numerous to list, each one a potential turning point, and the range of lessons they impart too vast to recount. My list of choices is no different to yours in that respect.
To be honest, I still haven't quite figured out what the message is for me yet, from those two emails. The first one made me sit up straight and the second one was like a smack in the head.
Rather than try and hack some thoughtful learning together and share it with you - because frankly, it ain't there yet - I'll simply leave you with this:
Is there anything in your life at the moment that's making you think, ‘What if I don't do this? What will life be like?’
Can you identify what that thing is?
And what can you do about it?
Your words matter,
Laura
The Weekly Writing Reflection
Welcome!
Each week I share an inspirational quote and a writing prompt. The idea is for you to spend a moment doing some active reflection through writing.
Here’s your quote, something slightly different today. Thank you to Nick S. for sharing this beautiful poem with me this week:
‘The sense of danger must not disappear:
The way is certainly both short and steep,
However gradual it looks from here;
Look if you like, but you will have to leap.’
Leap Before You Look, W. H. Auden
And your writing prompt, if you’d like to use one:
Sooner or later, I shall have to leap over….
What’s Caught My Eye This Week
Each and every week I’ll share a few snippets of inspiration, thought-provocation and jubilation. Hand-curated delights, selected by yours truly to stimulate your mind and soothe your soul.
Don't just tell your story... show it! I'm all about the words, but luckily Nick Cole is taking care of the photos. Here Nick shares his advice on how to tell a visual story.
LinkedIn - love it or loathe it? LinkedIn gets a bad rap. I frequently hear people complain about it and honestly, I'm not quite sure why. So I was chuffed to see a newsletter this week from Joe at The Marketing Meetup, giving his view on how to not make a pig's ear of LinkedIn. If you're interested, connect with Joe. His conduct is pretty much a gold standard on how to approach the platform. And if not? This short snippet from the email may help:
“Give, give, give It's interesting that the posts that 'do well' are very rarely ones which are promotional in nature. The attitude, therefore, is not 'what can I do to speak about my product', but instead 'I am the living ambassador for my product, it's values and more'. Without meaning to go 'Social Dilemma' about it, on Linkedin you are the product. I love Claudia Cardinali's approach to posting for that reason.”Background noise for concentration - there are plenty of these apps out there, but I really like the simplicity of this one. Choose from cafe noises or rainfall. Cafe for me, every time. I live in the UK - definitely don't need any help with the sound of rainfall :)
See you next week! As ever, if this newsletter has raised even half a smile, please do share it with a friend.
Have a great weekend!
