A small idea I'd like to share with you...
Trying to make a tiny difference in the climate of crisis
How are you?
The news is a troublesome watch at the best of times. At the moment, the pace and the volume of information coming at us is unrelenting.
I have a small idea to bring a little more positivity to the day. I’d love to share it with you:
It’s a daily writing reflection to clarify your thoughts and shine a little ray of sunshine on the day
I’ll curate a selection of inspirational quotes
Each morning I’ll share one here
Set a timer for one minute (or however long you like!)
Write whatever comes into your head: write about the quote, your thoughts, plans for the day, anything!
The point is not to worry about it, the point is to write. If it’s one word, one hundred, or one thousand, it doesn’t matter.
What’s the thinking behind it?
Being with yourself and your thoughts gives your brain a moment of pause at the start of a new day. Writing – and I’d recommend an actual pen and notepad for this, rather than an electronic device – helps put a little order in the chaos. The feel of skin moving across the page and ink appearing on what was blank space connects racing thoughts to the tangible world. It’s grounding.
At the very least, an inspirational quote will, hopefully, start the day off on a positive note.
There isn’t a great deal I can do about the current situation. I can write, and I can encourage others to try what helps me feel more centred in turbulent times.
Day 1: Writing Reflections
Here’s your quote for the day:
‘The goal is not to sail the boat, but rather to help the boat sail herself.’
- John Roysmaniere
Use the prompt below if you’d like something to get your writing started (or feel free to ignore if you like):
From the boat, I can see…
Set your timer… go!
Written to you with the best intentions
I'm always a little unsure about whether to post these inspirational or more personal things in the professional realm. I have this paranoia that people find it a bit naff or unprofessional.
Perhaps it is!
In these crazy days, maybe it's more useful for us all to share some positivity than to allow the naysaying voice within our heads to get the better of us. I’ll keep going until this thing is over. Until we can shake hands, hug, chat, and share a cuppa freely.
Never miss a beat
I’ll be sharing these posts on LinkedIn and on this blog.
Though if you want to start the day calm and collected, make sure you’re subscribed and you’ll receive an email every time a post is published. That way, you’ll get an inspirational quote and a writing prompt delivered daily, so you won’t miss a thing.
Together, we’ll get through this. For now, stay safe and healthy and I’ll look forward to seeing you – in person – on the other side.
Your words matter,
Laura
P.S. Enjoyed the daily quote and writing prompt? Why not share with a friend, family member or colleague who might appreciate a dose of daily positivity?
